Greg says some very true words about dying to self that you should check out. It reminds me of a thought of Henri Nouwen’s that I read this morning, “You will find your deepest love in God.” As you can imagine, those are important words for a young man to read.
Our identity as young men is so often wrapped up in the affirmation of a women, the adulation of our colleagues and peers and the accomplishment of personal goals that I think we… that I think I… can sometimes forget this. When those things crumble, as they have for many of my friends, people are left stunned or paralyzed. There must be a way out, but all sources of energy are gone.
So today, dying to self means letting go of my relationship expectations, pats on the back for the most efficient work and a few personal markers that may not be God’s for me. How about you? What do you need to die to?
