Searching

Fellow voxian (little voice?), Eric, takes note of the dismally high search counts for celebrities at Yahoo.com’s 2005 wrap-up, puzzling over just what people are searching for. We’ll always have a fascination with the sensational or novel as humans. I wonder though, if Google’s “Top Gainers” list doesn’t speak to this question more. Take a look:

Google.com - Top Gainers of 2005
1. Myspace
2. Ares
3. Baidu
4. wikipedia
5. orkut
6. iTunes
7. Sky News
8. World of Warcraft
9. Green Day
10. Leonardo da Vinci
Take note of online community, My Space; Chinese search engine, Baidu; collaborative encyclopedia, Wikipedia; social networking tool, Orkut; music outlet, iTunes; UK news outlet, Sky News; multiplayer game, World of Warcraft; music group, Green Day; and “Code”-inspiring Leonardo.
What are people looking for? I think it’s much of what they’ve always been searching for. They’re looking for people to share life with, true knowledge and wisdom to build life on, rest from a hard day’s work and something that acknowledges the mystery of life. Perhaps we’re headed into the mystic after all.
Plenty of more intriguing search info here.
