Ok, so I’m really not that old, but it’s a fun joke. Now that my birthday month has come, perhaps you’ll forgive me for being a little too philosophical. I haven’t had much excuse till now. ;)
Honestly, I had almost forgotten till I was reminded by kind friends at a leadership team (I love the adjective, “bodyguard.”) and by an e-mail announcing today’s office birthday celebrations. Then there was the motherly reminder, “You need to tell us what you want for your birthday.” And now here I am weeks away from 28 - two years away from 30.
And you know what? I’m very ok with that. There’s a reason I have a hard time remembering my age. (Ok, there are two, but my forgetfulness doesn’t count.) God has given me a lot of things to be thankful for. My life might not be the white-picket 2.5 kids, but it’s full and there are still people on the horizon to love and be loved by. That’s very cool.
Thanks for sharing in the fun with me over the last while. You’ve made the journey much more worthwhile.

What date? I didn’t know your birthday was in July. Mine is on Thursday, and even though I complain, I really don’t mind getting older. It’s like wine. Anyway Happy Birthday! I won’t ask what you want because I’ll get you a book. No surprises here. You don’t like them right?

You have a birthday this Thursday… like today? Congratulations!
Of course now that you’ve mentioned my hidden love of books, now all my life secrets are out of the bag, ha. My birthday is on the 28th, which means you have plenty of time. (Unlike, me who only had -14 hours warning.) [insert wry smile that smilies can’t quite imitate]
